The Big Science Project began in April 2019 when Helen, who grew up in rural Wales, noticed the lack of science activities for primary students available to children in similar areas. With over twenty years of experience in research science, Helen is passionate about bringing fun and educational science activities for kids to primary school children in rural communities across Wales. Also, as a Welsh speaker, Helen understands how important it is for children in Wales to have access to extracurricular activities bilingually.
The Big Science Project offers activities across science, technology, engineering, and maths. Helen travels across West, Mid, and North Wales to make science more accessible. She has a deep understanding of how to engage children in science based on her extensive experience of science communication, science lesson plans and outreach activities.
Additionally, where events are not happening near you, Helen and her team of scientists have created home science activities to do at home, suitable for ages 6 years old and up. Check out our ‘Home Science Kits’ page for these activities!
The Big Science Project promotes science to children in as many rural communities of Wales as possible. We are inspiring future scientists right here in rural Wales by giving children access to a variety of fun and educational science activities for primary students in a community near you.
